You can't imagine the success of the 504 across the African continent until you saw it with your own eyes!! It's just the 504 continent, believe me!! Over there, the 504 has a fabulous reputation, it has been used for years as taxi, to cross deserts or roads in very poor condition, and even if its importance is slowly decreasing, we'll still see tons of 504 in Africa for ages!! In france, almost all 504 that are being sold or thrown away are directly sent to Africa, where they're worth much more money!!
I'd really like to thank my friend
P.H. for this 2 great shots he did in Lybia! Just imagine that he was
in Tripoli for a business trip, and he bought a little camera to take
some of the numerous 504 saloon that are used as collective taxis over
there! I'm afraid that all my friends are slowly getting very strange
habits when they travel, but I really do like that, for sure! |
Tangi's
parents have made a great trip through Africa in 1981, driving a nice
504 GL from Paris all the way down to Cotonou, in Benin!! They crossed
some beautiful cities, among which Algésiras, Oran, Ghardaïa, Tamanrasset,
Agadez, Birni n'Koni... Dreamy, isn't it?? You'll notice that a lot of
the cars actually are 504s on the pictures!! Hey, the 504 IS the Queen
of the desert! |

I've been 2 times in Mauritania, where my best friend has settled 2 years ago. I fully understand his choice : not only is this country beautiful, but also thousands of 504 can be seen every day there! It's like a paradise... Let's start with these 3 pictures of the main taxi station of Nouakchott, the capital. Look at that : only 504s, and a few 505s!!! Have you ever dreamt of such a place???? It's simply unbelievable! No wonder that it's getting hard to find some station wagon 504 in Europe... |
This 504 is being completely restored, and I can tell you, it'll be in excellent condition! Now that it's getting harder to import 504 from Europe, the mauritanians try to renew the existing 504s!!! Go there in 30 years, I'm sure this one will still be running! Notice just behind the 504 station wagon... |
Once again, still in Nouakchott, 2 504s are being totally restored! Mauritania is a great country, for sure! And this also goes for the 404 pick up in the back! |
This photo was taken by Captain Genlot and his wife Malou, between 2 safaris in the Kruger park... Congratulations for this great shot of a wild beast, pal! |
I've been in Congo in 1998, and, like many african countries, the 504 is pretty much represented over there. Here is an example of a mighty 504 Dangel, a 4-wheel drive Pick up. This Dangel is much higher than the normal 504, its wheels are also bigger, and its efficacity is said to be very impressive. What about the look?? I definitly love it!! Who couldn't? With the spare wheel on top, and the front light protection, you can't resist to that look, really! |
That's a photo I took "on the fly", while driving south from Yaounde in Cameroon, aiming towards Gabon. It's one of the only 504 photo I took in Camroon, don't ask me why, because there were plenty of them in Cameroon!! |
OK, I admit, the 504 on this photo isn't very noticable, but believe me, it's there!! In fact, it's a 504 wreck, stored in front of the house for parts... That's typical in Africa : you can find a 504 in every house!! |
My sister went to Jordania and Egypt last summer, and there again, you can find many 504 taxis such as this very nice sample... Notice the black&white painting specific to the cabs over there, and also the roof rack, to carry 5 tons of luggage ! |

Thanks to PA who took those exotic pictures from the red sea, Sharm El Sheik to be fully precise. Backgrounds are cool and make us feel like we could be there... Take five minutes of your time to look at the number plate of the sedan: VIP car! "504, a taste of luxury on the red sea". |
Still PA behind the camera. Symetry, style, and of course the purpose of the picture: 2 typical SW 504-TAXI. |

Lucile was on her way and certainly some mysterious power forced her to take this picture at the border of Israel. A kind of pyramid starring at this "beyond reality SW 504". White body, red plate half-latin, half-arabic, roof rack, emergency signal... a bunch of the original shapes and accessories that made the highlights of the 504 in Africa. Special thanks to Tangui! |
Daniel from Budapest, Hungary, travelled to Egypt recently. In front of Kheops pyramid he stared at this exceptionnal SW 504, no rust at all thanks to the sunny weather. Cool picture from a cool fan. Keep us the good job Daniel!!! |
Here is photo of a nigerian
504 I found on the web, on www.blueox.demon.co.uk. I didn't know
anything on that car, until his former owner, Andy from the UK,
found this photo while surfing on the 504.org site!!! It must
have been quite a surprise for him to find his car on somebody
else's site!! |
